Special Tribute To: Izaak Walton League, Dwight Lydell Chapter
LET IT BE KNOWN, That in recognition of its 75 years
of distinguished
involvement and service to our community, it is a distinct privilege to
join
with the Dwight Lydell Chapter of the Izaak Walton League in celebrating
this milestone. We are grateful for this opportunity to recognize
this
exemplary organization and offer our thanks for the gifts they have shared
throughout Michigan.
The Dwight Lydell Chapter of the Izaak Walton League
of America was formed
in 1926. It is the oldest Chapter in Michigan, and one of the oldest
conservation organizations in the state. The Chapter is named after
Dwight
Lydell, a nationally recognized fisheries biologist and superintendent
at
Mill Creek Station fish hatchery in Comstock Park from 1897 to 1927.
Since
the Chapter was first founded, fisheries and water quality protection,
restoration and improvement have been a high priority.
Over the years, the Dwight Lydell Chapter has been
the lead organization in
many projects, including improving the treatment of industrial and municipal
waste discharges to the Grand River, introducing Pacific salmon and
steelheads into the Grand River watershed, establishing fish ladders on
the
Grand River, and organizing the first outdoor sports show in Grand Rapids.
Through these and other efforts, members of the Chapter have been
instrumental in promoting the importance of Michigan's natural resources.
We commend them for their valuable contributions and thank them for their
many years of leadership and service in the community.
IN SPECIAL TRIBUTE, Therefore, This document is signed
and dedicated to
commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Dwight Lydell Chapter of the Izaak
Walton League. May the members, both present and past, know of our
appreciation for their contributions to the community and of our best
wishes
for continued success.
